Passkey at a Glance
A passkey is a faster and more secure way to verify your identity when signing in to your FirstMetroSec web account. Once you've registered a passkey, you can verify your identity using your device's built-in authentication method, such as Face ID, Touch ID (fingerprint), your device PIN, or another supported device authentication method.
Effective August 16, 2026, passkeys will replace email one-time passwords (OTPs) as the verification method when signing in to FirstMetroSec web platforms. After entering your username and password, you'll simply verify your identity using your registered passkey.
Why Should I Use a Passkey?
Passkeys provide a faster, more secure, and more convenient way to verify your identity when signing in to your FirstMetroSec web account.
Benefits of using a passkey:
- More secure – Adds an extra layer of protection and helps protect against phishing and unauthorized access.
- Faster – Verify your identity without manually entering a one-time password (OTP) on supported devices.
- Easier – Authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID (fingerprint), your device PIN, or another supported device authentication method.
- Compliant – Supports the company’s enhanced security measures and aligns with BSP Circular No. 1213.
Setting Up Your Passkey
Before setting up your passkey, make sure:
- Your FirstMetroSec web account is active.
- You have a stable internet connection.
- You have access to your registered email address.
- Your device has a screen lock enabled (e.g., PIN, fingerprint, or Face ID).
- You're using a supported device and browser.
Setting up a passkey only takes a few minutes.
- Log in to your FirstMetroSec web account. Go to the FirstMetroSec web platform and sign in using your username and password.
- Verify your identity. A One-Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your registered email address. Enter the OTP to proceed.
- Set up your passkey. Follow the on-screen instructions to create and save your passkey.
- Authenticate on your device when prompted. Depending on your device, you may be asked to use Face ID, Touch ID/fingerprint, your device PIN, or another supported device authentication method.
Once your passkey has been successfully registered, you can use it to verify future sign-ins on supported devices and browsers.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is my passkey the same as my password?
No. Your passkey is a separate authentication credential created for your FirstMetroSec account and stored through your device’s supported passkey or password-management system.
2. Why is FirstMetroSec introducing passkey authentication?
This enhancement reflects our ongoing commitment to improving account security while providing a reliable investing experience. It also aligns with the latest Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) guidelines on stronger customer authentication.
3. Which FirstMetroSec platforms are affected by this update?
This update applies only to FirstMetroSec web platforms, including FirstMetroSec PRO.
For FirstMetroSec GO (mobile app), biometric login (such as fingerprint or Face ID) is already available. This update does not affect the existing login experience on the app.
4. Do I need to install another application?
No. Passkey authentication uses the built-in security features of your compatible smartphone, tablet, or computer. No additional app is required.
5. Do I need to register my passkey every time I sign in?
No. You only need to register your passkey once on a supported device. After registration, you can use the passkey when signing in on supported devices and browsers.
6. What if my device does not support fingerprint or face recognition?
You may still be able to authenticate using your device PIN or another supported authentication method, depending on your device's capabilities.
7. Will this affect my investments or account information?
No. This update only changes how you authenticate your identity. Your account, portfolio, and investments remain unchanged.
8. How secure is passkey authentication?
Passkeys use device-based authentication to help protect your account against phishing and unauthorized access by reducing reliance on one-time passwords.
Your passkey is securely stored and managed through your device's supported passkey or password-management system, such as iCloud Keychain on Apple devices, Google Password Manager on Android/Google-supported devices, and Windows Hello on Windows devices.
Troubleshooting
1. What if I can't create my passkey?
Make sure your device has a screen lock enabled and that you are using a supported browser and device.
2. What if passkey authentication does not work?
Check that your device's biometric or screen-lock authentication is working properly, then try the sign-in again.
3. What if I get a new device?
A passkey is associated with the device or passkey-management system where it was registered. When using a new device, you may need to register a passkey on that device before using passkey sign-in.
4. What should I do if I lose my device?
Secure your device as soon as possible using the device's available security features. If you believe your FirstMetroSec account may be at risk, contact FirstMetroSec Customer Service immediately.
